Welcome to the hidden jewel of the Catalan coast: Massa d'Or Island, also known as Illa de Sa Rata. Located 705 meters east of the majestic Cap de Creus, this small island of 0.7 hectares emerges as the easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula. Its uniqueness and beauty are fervently protected within the Cap de Creus Maritime-Terrestrial Natural Park.
This is one of the most famous diving spots in Catalonia, with the most abundant underwater life in the area. Depths of 5 m to 30 m, ideally between 15 m and 30 m. All Mediterranean fish are represented here, in the midst of a colorful environment. It can have strong currents, it is common to see large banks of barracudas, groupers, walls full of gorgonians, tunas, rays and many more species characteristic of the Mediterranean.
What will you be able to see?
Immerse yourself among imposing gorgonian walls, underwater meadows and coral formations that paint a vibrant picture on the seabed. Observe banks of barracudas, obladas, serranids, large groupers and bream that find refuge in the waters near the island. Discover sponges, anemones, octopuses and a variety of crustaceans that give life to the seabed.
With a little luck, you'll be able to spot pelagic fish such as tuna, servioles or even sunfish that migrate through the area.
